DBT-A Skills Group
September 11 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 6:00pm on Monday, happening 12 times
Start Date: September 11, 2017, Mondays, 12 weeks
We have commenced a program designed to treat the adolescent presentation of Borderline Personality behaviors following the model of A. Miller and J. Rathius from New York. Ages Served: 14 – 17 years (exceptions maybe considered).
This session is meant for those in a therapy program with Inner Solutions, and is a part of the 24-week commitment to treatment. One parent attends with the student, for a two hour weekly skills training session for 12 weeks.
Therapy consists of individual weekly sessions and phone coaching; plus 12 weeks of concurrent 2 hour weekly DBT skills classes (with one parent attending with the student).
Therapy includes phone coaching and family sessions (if required) with the focus being on the individual adolescent client, using therapy to learn and integrate better copies strategies and emotion regulations skills.
It is not unusual that the parents may need to have their own sessions with either the childs therapist of another therapist on the team.
A commitment of up to one year is not unusual.
The DBT skills classes are intended to help address:
- Impulsiveness, and high-risk behaviors.
- Life threatening behaviors including suicide attempts and parasuicide (self-harm) behaviors.
- Mood swings, highs and lows.
- Confusion about self, ‘who am I’ and self-esteem issues.
- Interpersonal conflict and fear of intimacy.
- Behavioral, Emotional and Thought patterns that may be contributing to misery, distress and “problems in living”.
This group is not offered on a drop-in basis. All participants in the DBT-A Skills Group Sessions must sign-up with Inner Solutions prior to attending.
