Tips for Effective Teletherapy

During the ongoing concerns related to COVID-19, Inner Solutions™ Ltd. has a few pointers to make the temporary transition to teletherapy sessions as easy as possible:

COPE AHEAD

Plan to text or email your diary card ahead of time to your therapist so that your therapy session can start as seamlessly as possible. This might or can include having a missing links completed if for some reason your homework or diary card were unable to be completed.

Confidentiality

As with any therapy appointment, confidentiality is important to us! Please read and return the Electronic Communications Agreement and return a signed copy for any video appointments using the following platforms: DoxyFaceTime, and WhatsApp

Set yourself up for success

There are a few things you can do in order to maximize your teletherapy experience, whether it is phone or video:

  1. Find/locate a private space within your house where you will not be overheard or disrupted during your session (e.g., ask your spouse, roommate to wear earplugs).
  2. Cope ahead with potential challenges associated with telecommunication (e.g., charge your phone, computer; familiarize yourself with the platform/download the app).
  3. Remember that any glitches/problems that may occur during service delivery are a great opportunity to use the skills you know already!

Let’s make this time an opportunity to strengthen the positive routines and changes we have already made, or have started to make. As usual, we welcome your feedback as well as any additional questions or concerns while we make this transition.

Of course, don’t forget to take care of yourself during these times. Remember to use your effectiveness skills and make lemonade out of the lemons!
